Minutes of Round Table Stake Corner Meeting that COR Aaron Weaver attended:  Thursday, November 14, 2013

Review of Calendar & Other Items:

  • Eagle Board of Reviews - Every 4th Thursday's @ PG Manila Stake Center
  • Wood Badge sponsored by PG Manila Stake, April 17-19, 24-26 @ Mutual Dell.  Need to sign-up online at utahscouts.org by December 4th before this is opened up to the rest of the world.
  • High Adventure Showcase - Tue. January 21, 2014 7:00 PM @ A-Frame Building across from Stake Center.  Invited are Teachers & Priest Quorum's to have a booth setup to show all activities that you have done in 2013.  Need to provide handouts of where, costs, miles away, and details what you did.  Can display pictures on posters or show from a projected or computer screen.
  • 2014 Merit Badge Roundup:  Need to decide what Manila 8th Ward would like to sponsor for April 26, 2014.  Any suggestions please email Aaron Weaver @ Lvit2weav@gmail.com.
  • Leader Specific Training: This is all now offered at monthly round table.
  • 2014 Round Table - Change: New location for 2014 Round Table will be sponsored by the Cedar Hills Stake at their Stake Center right across from the Cedar Hills Fire Station.  This will also be changed to the 1st Thursday of every month instead of the 2nd Thursday.
  • District Merit Badge Coordinator - The Stake is looking for a couple or individual who who volunteer to help keeping track of all the Merit Badge Counselors in the district and making sure they are registered, youth protection trained, and councilor trained.  Any interested please notify Aaron Weaver at Lvit2weav@gmail.com

Merit Badge Roundup - October 26, 2013


SAR (Search & Rescue) Merit Badge

Saturday, October 26th
Manila Creek Pond, Park
Start: 8:00 AM

PREREQUISITE: Scouts must complete the training for ICS-100, Introduction to Incident command and print out the certificate of completion and bring it with them Saturday morning.

Time                 Activity
8:00                  Meet as a group to discuss the following items:
·       Hazards of SAR
·       Demonstrate ways to stay safe
·       Search vs. Rescue
·       Evaluate Search Urgency
·       Authority for SAR
8:30                  Break into 4 groups (by wards) for 4 examples of SAR disciplines (rotate   
                          every 15 min each)
·       Mountain Rescue (3:1, Patient Packaging)
·       Dive (Gear, Search Patterns)
·       Medical (Splinting and Bandaging)
·       USAR (PGFD)
9:40                  Break into 2 groups (by wards – 20 min. in each group. Rotate.)
·       Group 1: Scenario of a lost person, discussion
·       Group 2: Plan and carry out a hasty search
10:30                 Meet as a group to talk about volunteer and career opportunities in SAR
                           Exhibits and demonstrations with
·       Utah County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team
·       PGFD
·       PGPD
·       Life Flight
11:30                Wrap up and sign cards (ICS-100 online training must be completed at home)

Requirements
1. Read “100 Years of Scouting in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” which is included on this card. With your family or a Scout leader, discuss two things you learned from this history.
2. Read “Run, Boy, Run,” which is included on this card, and write your feelings about this story in your journal.
Electives
1. Complete at least two requirements toward earning the Genealogy merit badge.
2. Complete at least two requirements toward earning the Family Life merit badge.
3. Memorize the thirteenth article of faith, and discuss with your family or a leader how this article of faith and the Scout Law support each other.
4. Meet two youth outside of your area and discuss with them how Scouting has benefited your life or the life of a Scout you know.
5. Share your feelings about doing your duty to God with your family, a friend of another faith, or a leader.
