November Merit Badge Round-Up: Communications on Saturday, November 23, 2013 @ 8:00 AM

November Merit Badge Round-Up - Communications Merit Badge
Saturday, November 23rd, 8:00AM, Mahogany Chapel

What to Bring:
Wear scout uniform
Blue Merit Badge card signed by your leader
Printed Communications PDF workbook
Pencil or Pen
Scouting Spirit to learn

Prerequisites - Please review the merit badge requirements well ahead of time so scouts may have enough time to complete the prerequisites before the Round-up. To receive a completed merit badge card at the Round-up, prerequisite requirement work needs to be written legibly in the workbook and signed by a scouting leader or parent as complete.

Req 1 - Will be done at the Round-up

Req 2 - Will be done at the Round-up

Req 3 - Must give 5 minute talk before the Round-up - church sacrament talks count.  In the workbook indicate date talk was given, topic, main points and have it signed by a parent or leader.

Req 4 - Must perform interview before the Round-up. Write introduction to interviewee in the workbook and have it signed by a parent or leader.

Req 5 - Must attend public meeting before the Round-up. Record meetings notes in the workbook and have it signed by a parent or leader.  Some upcoming city meetings you could attend:

2013-11-14 District Roundtable - Governing Principles - Alpine District

Governing Principles - Alpine District

The charter organization comprising the District have the critical, vested interest in the outcome of the youth and adults served by the District.  Uniting the charter organizations leadership with District leadership empowers the District with both the responsibility abed authority to insure BSA is meeting the needs of the charter organizations.

  • In the case of LDS unites, successful implementation of any District strategy or program requires the support and active participation of a member of the Stake Presidency (Relations Committee), High Council member(s), (ADC and other district committees), the Stake Young Men Presidency and Secretary (Venture, Varsity, Scout and Membership Committees), a member of the Stake Primary Presidency (Cub Committee) and other members from the stake (other District committees).
  • Other charter organizations, in cooperation with the district, will establish their own, appropriate support and activity levels for members of their organization.
Share vision and purpose is the key to success.  Each member of the District organization will complete Wood Bade training within 6 months of their new assignment.  Bishoprics and other members of the charter organizations are encouraged to attend as well.  Scout Uniform will be work at Round Table and other district events.

Vision
Trained, committed, and energized adult advisors employing the aims and methods of scouting to achieve the purposes of the Charter Organization.

Strategy
  • Organize around the Families of Scouting focusing on needs of units and boys
  • Create a training environment at roundtables and at District events
  • District Scouting Committees conduct well planned and well executed Roundtables by:
    • Planning and Calendaring 18 months out
    • Sharing ideas, thoughts and challenges - integrate reflections in all activities
    • Coordinating events and training
    • Practicing leadership skills
  • District Committee plan, coordinate and conduct structured training and program events specific to their areas of responsibilities
  • Conduct Roundtable training for Unit Commissioners and COR's on regular basis
  • Publicize and Promote Wood Badge, North Star, Timberline, Varsity All Star and Kodiak training
  • Tracking and Accountability of training
  • Invite Stake Presidency, Stake Young Men Presidency, Stake Primary President, Stake High Councilors and Bishoprics to attend Wood Badge
  • Invite Stake Presidency and Stake Young Men Presidency to attend LDS week at Philmont
  • Facilitate administrative functions between Council and District
  • LDS Stake corners focus on integrating Scouting with Primary and Aaronic Priesthood programs
Milestones
  • All adult Scouters completed Fast Start, Youth Protection, Leader Specific Training and North Star
  • District Eighteen-Month Calendar published and maintained on District Website
  • District Friends of Scouting annual campaign completed during the month of September
  • District Re-chartering process completed during the month of October
  • All Adult Scouters are properly uniformed and trained

2013-11-14 Round Table Stake Corner Meeting

Minutes of Round Table Stake Corner Meeting that COR Aaron Weaver attended:  Thursday, November 14, 2013

Review of Calendar & Other Items:

  • Eagle Board of Reviews - Every 4th Thursday's @ PG Manila Stake Center
  • Wood Badge sponsored by PG Manila Stake, April 17-19, 24-26 @ Mutual Dell.  Need to sign-up online at utahscouts.org by December 4th before this is opened up to the rest of the world.
  • High Adventure Showcase - Tue. January 21, 2014 7:00 PM @ A-Frame Building across from Stake Center.  Invited are Teachers & Priest Quorum's to have a booth setup to show all activities that you have done in 2013.  Need to provide handouts of where, costs, miles away, and details what you did.  Can display pictures on posters or show from a projected or computer screen.
  • 2014 Merit Badge Roundup:  Need to decide what Manila 8th Ward would like to sponsor for April 26, 2014.  Any suggestions please email Aaron Weaver @ Lvit2weav@gmail.com.
  • Leader Specific Training: This is all now offered at monthly round table.
  • 2014 Round Table - Change: New location for 2014 Round Table will be sponsored by the Cedar Hills Stake at their Stake Center right across from the Cedar Hills Fire Station.  This will also be changed to the 1st Thursday of every month instead of the 2nd Thursday.
  • District Merit Badge Coordinator - The Stake is looking for a couple or individual who who volunteer to help keeping track of all the Merit Badge Counselors in the district and making sure they are registered, youth protection trained, and councilor trained.  Any interested please notify Aaron Weaver at Lvit2weav@gmail.com
